New Delhi, 9th October, 2025: Each season at Lakmē Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI the NIF Global “The Runway” show is the most awaited event by the fashion followers. This season, creative student designers from NIF Global created five collections and unleashed their talents on the ramp with innovative looks at fashion, from different parts of the country.

The theme for the show was “Reimagined Heirlooms” and the students pushed their creative envelopes to the ultimate limits when they drew their inspirations from personal, cultural and community heirlooms, which could be individual or shared. Collective treasures like family articles, cloth, art, jewellery, old crafts, weaves, embellishments and embroidery that had moved from generations or were inherited, appeared to be the basis of the varied collections.

ANURUPA SAHA AND BARNALI GARAI FROM NIF GLOBAL KOLKATA SALT LAKE

Paying fashionable homage to Bengali heritage, the designers presented “Sutoye Adda” where ‘Suto’ means thread and ‘Adda’ refers to intimate conversations. Looking back at the tradition of women meeting and exchanging stories, while they stitched expertly, the collection wove a gorgeous tapestry of communal memories. Dreamt up in refined cotton and linen blends and carefully embellished with the beautiful Kantha embroidery, the line was a homage to craftsmanship that combined the culture, artistry and sustainability of times gone by. The silhouettes were a mélange of boxy jackets, asymmetric skirts and tailored trousers that cleverly revealed a gentle fusion of ancestry, craftsmanship and contemporary shapes – all in refined muted tones.

The “Sutoye Adda” line was a grand mix of style, craft and silhouettes that moved from the past to the present.

HENCY PATEL FROM NIF GLOBAL, PANVEL

It is the love for the family that inspired the designer to pay a tribute to her dear ones and the rich glory of Gujarat. “The Souk Stories” was all about beads that are inspired by Moti Bharat, which is a 3-motif technique of bead weaving and patchwork. This wonderful technique was reimagined by the designer into a very stylish, urban, street style wardrobe. The skill that was passed down by Hency’s mom and Massi, which the designer brought to life, was in a more modern format. Picking out the best handloom cotton, denim and baby denim, the designer brought to centre stage stylized jackets and versatile separates that had immense possibilities of mix and match options. When a collection has heritage as its inspiration, then there was a grand mélange, as well as a fashion rebellion, when hand crafted details and patchwork highlighted the silhouettes.

“The Souk Stories” told a magical tale of fashion that was deeply rooted in family values and crafts.

JENIKA NAHAR AND DWITI JAIN FROM NIF GLOBAL, MUMBAI SOUTH (SOBO)

The designing duo’s collection “Riwaz Recoded” was reimagined by Rajasthan’s Rajai and quilts. These wonderful creations of Rajasthan are layered with care and at one time were the hiding place for silver coins that would bring prosperity. The creative pair however, now presented a collection for the Gen Next buyers, who long for fashion that has an innovative and unconventional touch. Oversized jackets, coats, pants and skirts swirled down the ramp in rainbow hues of lehriyas. The silver coins did appear, but were transformed into more practical uses as buttons and tassels. The quilted craft was now visible in puffer like layers, but also exuded a certain amount of warmth along with tradition as well as a contemporary narrative in fashion for the “Riwaz Recoded” collection.

The “Riwaz Recoded” collection was a fashionable homage to the craft of Rajasthan that would be stylish for modern ensembles.

MAHEK JARIWALA FROM NIF GLOBAL, SURAT

The “Dharohar” collection was aimed at the Gen Z buyers who not only respect heritage and style but also celebrate forward fashion with an edgy touch. The inspirations were the rich and bold blend of traditions that Mahek grew up with, when she watched her Dadi’s favourite Kutchi embroidery. The collection was a grand coordination of Ajrakh fabrics, with Kutchi embroidery that was all expertly crafted on Gaji silk, organza and modal silk Ajrakh. The utterly, feminine silhouettes comprised flowing skirts, knife-pleated pants, popular corset tops and layered dresses. There was a grand balance, structure, comfort and grace in the garments. The artistic embroidery was visualized in shades of blue and maroon, with ornate detailing that highlighted the beauty, richness, lightness and elegance of the fabrics.

The glamorous evening wear line “Dharohar” celebrated a conglomeration of timeless crafts and silhouettes that were not only wearable but were also unconventional.

DIYA AMBWANI FROM NIF GLOBAL, JAIPUR

For the designer her collection “Kitab” was a deep, personal, emotional and spiritual exercise. The kitab was initially passed down to Diya from her grandmother, who acquired it from her mother, who got her answers from the kitab. The kitab also was a source of answers for the designer, and a gift of guidance and strength, which gave her clarity, creativity and a guiding light. Transferring her experiences from chaos to clarity, with the help of the kitab, the collection was an impressive line crafted in linen, satin modal, satin and cotton linen that were selected for their breathable quality. With simple silhouettes at the core, there were layered creations that were easy on the eyes and a fit for all sizes.

The “Kitab” line offered immense possibilities to the Gen Z buyers who prefer individual styling options along with a dash of culture and craft.

Adding to the look of the very fast paced creative show, were the very appropriate set designs visualised by the interior design students from the different cities. The four stars from the interior design  division were Kanisha Bhalla from NIF Global Kanpur,  Rushi Soni from NIF Global Vadodara, Radhika Sonani from NIF Global Mumbai Borivali and Shravanee Khot from NIF Global Navi Mumbai, Vashi.

Showstopper Palak Tiwari made a perky entry in a slim, grey/black, mini skirt topped with a black blouse over a white shirt and skinny necktie, wearing Hency Patel. The intricate embroidered cummerbund was the eye-catcher along with the matching handbag.
